Geographical variations of prothrombotic polymorphisms: An important emerging risk factor for ischemic stroke.

چکیده
Ischemic stroke is a heterogeneous multifactorial disease that is affected by several genetic mutations and environmental factors. Various polymorphisms and mutations have been described as risk factors for stroke and they include angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) genotype, factor V Leiden, prothrombin G20210A, methylene tetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR), human platelet antigen type 1, factor XIII, apolipoprotein E (apo E), plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 4G/5G genotypes, phosphodiesterase 4D and 5-lipooxygenase-activating protein.[1,2]

Prevalence of prothrombotic polymorphisms in a selected cohort of cryptogenic and noncryptogenic ischemic stroke patients.
Ischemic stroke is a complex multifactorial disease and approximately 30%, especially in the young, are cryptogenic. In some of the patients with cryptogenic ischemic stroke the underlying risk factor may be a prothrombotic state. We studied 101 patients with ischemic stroke under 55 years of age. All the patients underwent an extensive diagnostic evaluation to determine the cause of stroke. Co...
متن کاملA Prothrombotic Score Based on Genetic Polymorphisms of the Hemostatic System Differs in Patients with Ischemic Stroke, Myocardial Infarction, or Peripheral Arterial Occlusive Disease
BACKGROUND While twin studies indicate a genetic component in arterial thrombosis such as ischemic stroke, myocardial infarction (MI), or peripheral arterial occlusive disease (PAOD), the clinical relevance of hemostatic polymorphisms in arterial thrombosis is a matter of debate. METHODS We analyzed the prevalence of 13 hemostatic polymorphisms [PAI-1, PLAT, F5 (including factor V Leiden and ...
متن کاملEvaluation of Homocysteine Level as a Risk Factor among Patients with Ischemic Stroke and Its Subtypes
Background: Epidemiological research has shown that increased total homocysteine (tHcy) levels are associated with an increased risk of thromboembolic disease; however, controversy still exists over which subtype of stroke is allied to hyperhomocysteinemia. This study aimed to investigate whether elevated tHcy is an independent risk factor for ischemic stroke and to compare tHcy levels in patie...

Protein Z Levels, Protein Z G79A Polymorphism, and Prothrombotic Conditions To the Editor: We read with great interest the article on protein Z gene polymorphisms, protein Z concentrations, and ischemic stroke published by Staton et al.1 The authors examine protein Z concentrations and 2 common polymorphisms of the protein Z gene in patients with a first-ever ischemic stroke and conclude that h...
متن کاملMultiple presence of prothrombotic risk factors in Croatian children with arterial ischemic stroke and transient ischemic attack
AIM To determine the frequency of inherited and acquired prothrombotic risk factors in children with arterial ischemic stroke (AIS) and transient ischemic attacks (TIA) in Croatia. METHODS We investigated 14 prothrombotic risk factors using blood samples from 124 children with AIS or TIA and 42 healthy children. Prothrombotic risk factors were classified into five groups: natural coagulation ...
